This past Friday on May 9th, Senior Helpers of Torrance had the opportunity to pass out Mother Day cupcakes to those in skilled nursing facilities. And the experience was phenomenal! The look of surprise, happiness, and elation mixed confusion was seen on all those who received cupcakes.
The tearful thank-you’s and big smiles were a great reminder as to how important it is to appreciate a loved one. Such a simple item as that of a cupcake was said to be the highlight for many of these patients whom are confined to their rooms. The rate of recovery is said to go faster when love and support are present from family, friends and caregivers. Needless to say, we were honored to be part of it.
We were even able to slide some cupcakes to the nurses as thank you for all that they do both as mothers and as a skilled nursing facility worker. Once we gave them the cupcakes, it was as if the place up! Everyone started to work with a smile on their face, and as a result, the patients started to smile as well because what could be more contagious than a smile? You can say this was one contagion none of the medical staff were concerned about containing.
A big thank-you to Sunnyside Nursing Center and Providence Little Company of Mary Sub Acute Care Center for allowing us to be part of the recovery process by spreading joy.
