Memorial Day commemorates United States men and women who died while in military service for their country. Memorial Day first began as a way to honor the dead Union soldiers of the Civil War and was continued after World War I to include American casualties of any military action.
The National Moment of Remembrance is a way to honor our fallen military heroes on Memorial Day. How to participate? At 3pm local time on Memorial Day, Monday May 25, pause for one minute of silence to remember and honor those who have died in service. Moment of Remembrance event coordinator Carmella LaSpada says, “It’s a way we can all help put the memorial back in Memorial Day.”
Do you have a senior family member or client that is a military veteran? Memorial Day might be something they would like to recognize, talk about or attend an event for. Remind them, if they don’t know already, of the Moment of Remembrance and offer to observe it with them or visit one of the local memorial sites in the county.
