If you are planning to have your grandparents over for the holidays, you may want to incorporate activities that accommodate the needs of your senior loved ones. Apart from the busy Central Florida attractions, you may want to include some family activities that promote emotional wellbeing, along with some relaxation time. Include an Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra event on your calendar, or attend one of the performances of The Nutcracker by the Orlando Ballet. Some members of our aging population would benefit by listening to music, or by attending a live musical performance. According to the Alzheimer’s Foundation, “…music can shift mood, manage stress-induced agitation, stimulate positive interactions, and facilitate cognitive function, and coordinate motor movements.” http://www.alzfdn.org/EducationandCare/musictherapy.html. For a relaxing time, take grandparents on a stroll around Cranes Roost Lake, in Altamonte Springs. Daily walking contributes to a healthy brain and a healthy heart.
