If you or your aging loved one are looking for an outdoor activity that doesn’t require a lot of physical work, then a picnic is the right activity for you!

Planning a picnic will allow time for you and your elderly loved one to sit outside, breathe the fresh air, and enjoy a delicious summer meal! Take a look at these tips for a perfect picnic to get you started:

Pick a place – find a local park or even a shady spot in your backyard! You can lay down a big blanket or find a picnic table.

Pack some snacks – Nothing says summer like a cool meal! Pack a salad, fruit, and lemonade! You can even bring some Jell-O or frozen yogurt for dessert. Just be sure to pack a lot of ice in your cooler!

Prepare for visitors – If you are picnicking on the ground, be prepared for bugs to try to join you. Spraying yourself with bug spray beforehand is your best option to ward off any critters!

Practice heat safety – You’ll always want to make sure that you and your senior are prepared for the sun and heat. Wear light, cotton clothing, a hat, and sunscreen when you are outdoors to prevent heat stroke and sunburn!
