You know what they say, “old habits die hard”, but if we are being honest with each other – there are certainly habits that we all need to kill.

While breaking a bad habit isn’t always easy, it isn’t impossible. Here are a few easy steps to break the bad habits in your life:

  1. Make the habit known – the first step to breaking bad habits is to know when and why you engage in the habit. Do you bite your nails while you watch TV? Perhaps reach for the chips when you are bored at night? Knowing what triggers your bad habits can help you to change your surroundings and avoid certain triggers.

  2. Recruit some help – sometimes you don’t even realize you are engaging in your bad habits because you just do it, well, out of habit! Recruit someone close to you to keep an eye out and note when you are engaging in your not-so-great habits!

  3. Replace the bad with good – one of the easiest ways to get rid of your bad habits is to replace them with better habits. If you tend to smoke while driving, try chewing gum instead. If you go home and plop on the couch, try doing 25 jumping jacks first. This helps your mind focus on a more positive task rather than the negative task.
