May is rapidly coming to an end, but that doesn’t mean the memories have to come to an end as well! If you’re heading to a wedding or graduation ceremony this year and have not picked up a gift yet, considering giving the gift of memory! Senior Helpers has picked out some creative presents that will preserve the precious memories of your loved ones.

  • Disposable cameras. If you are going to a wedding ceremony, bring a few disposable cameras and pass them out to different people (try giving them to different generations too!). At the end collect the cameras and have them developed. These photos will make a great gift for the bride and groom to remember their wedding from their guests’ view!
  • Scrapbook kit. Help the graduate in your life remember their “best years” with a scrapbook starter. This will help them preserve the memories of school. Volunteer to help put the book together so you can bond as well as remember.
  • Journal. Is there a veteran in your life? Give them a journal or diary to preserve their honorable memories. Help your aging loved ones write down their stories!

Are any of the grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, or nephews graduating high school or college? If the answer is yes, now is the perfect time to sit down with your aging loved ones and put together a special family scrapbook for that wonderful graduate.

My own daughter is off to college this coming fall and my mom and I have been putting together a beautiful book filled with lots of photos and special memories. Not only will my daughter love having this with her while she is away from home, but it has also given my mother and I some time to reminisce together! Take your aging loved ones to Michel's or AC Moore and stock up on all the things you will need to put together a beautiful scrapbook.

Is your dad a veteran? Buy them a nice journal or diary. Pick it out now and put it away and give it as a gift for Father's Day next month. Ask them to write down all their memories about their time in the military, especially the things that made them proud. You will always have these stories to share with your children and grandchildren. Plus, an active mind is always better than an idle one. Having a project like this to work on every day will help keep your loved one's mind active.
