How did we get started?

Senior Helpers of Niles - Lincolnwood was founded by Michael Turner and has been providing quality in-home care for seniors in the Niles, Lincolnwood, Edgebrook/Sauganash, Chicago and surrounding communities for the past six years.

Michael set out to build a company that would be a trusted leader for senior care in the community and that would provide the type of caring and professionalism on which seniors and their families could depend. Senior Helpers of Niles-Lincolnwood has established a reputation for kind and compassionate care delivered by a dedicated staff of caregivers. The majority of caregivers have been with the company for over 2 years, several with the same client(s).

What makes us unique?

Our “can do” approach defines us. If the senior can do it- we encourage them. We support their independence and self-respect by focusing on what they can do; not what they cannot do. Here are three initiatives that represent the heart of Senior Helpers of Niles-Lincolnwood:

Senior Gems®:

At Senior Helpers, our professionally, trained caregivers take a positive approach to Alzheimer’s and dementia care with our unique Senior Gems® program. The Senior Gems® focuses on what is precious and unique about all of our clients.  Although we understand there are changes taking place and this creates a challenging environment for both family and senior, our goal is to bring joy into every client’s life each day we are given the privilege of caring for them.

Our Caregivers:

Our caregivers are special people.  Special is a key qualification for being hired. We look for that combination of kindhearted and caring- yet professional. Our caregivers must be able to create a positive environment through meaningful activities and communications for clients with physical or cognitive challenges. We place the utmost importance on ensuring our caregivers receive the latest training, undergo thorough background checks and are fully credentialed.

Community Outreach:

Michael writes a bi-weekly column for the Sauganash Sounds community newspaper, focused on successful aging. Articles cover subjects such as tips for traveling safe as a senior, managing long distance care giving, and keys to maintaining a healthy brain. Senior Helpers also provides educational seminars at senior centers, libraries, churches, etc. Helping people better understand the needs of seniors is one of the core philosophies upon which Michael has built his business.  Senior Helpers conducts memory screenings, dementia care workshops for professional and family caregivers and participates in many other related activities as a way of supporting the communities we serve.

What do our client families say about us?

I just wanted to take the time to drop you a note and thank you and your entire staff for the wonderful job of caregiving that you provided my aunt with for the last five months of her life.”

“She was a single lady, and after being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, she had to decide between extended care in a nursing home or 24 hour care at home.  My aunt chose to stay home as long as possible.  With the help of your agency, she was allowed to do just that.”

“You provided her with caregivers that she trusted and became friends with.  They helped her with medications, personal care, and meals.  She was well cared for and comfortable in her home, and it gave her and our family peace of mind knowing that she was happy with her decision.”

“Your staff was a pleasure to deal with.  Any time there was a question, if it wasn't taken care of immediately, we had an answer before days end.  Communication was excellent.”

“I will recommend your agency to anyone facing a need for "Senior Help" in any way.  Thank you again for the excellent care you provided my Aunt with.

“From Mr. Turner’s help at the beginning when I first met with him to caregiver’s daily help, I have appreciated the individual concern both he and our caregiver gave us from the beginning to the end of our service with Senior Helpers.    It was so “up and down” with when we would start the in-home care that I thought perhaps Senior Helpers wouldn’t be there when we finally did get home but that was not the case!!!”

“Our experience has been the best with Senior Helpers!!!  Our caregiver has made John’s recuperation experience much more pleasant and she has made life much easier for me, the family caregiver, by allowing me time to get my work done and taking the pressures of meal preparation, laundry and housekeeping off of my plate.  She has worked with John to get his strength back by taking daily walks and brushing up on his chess playing skills as well.  As we try to move forward on our own, we will miss her daily presence and envy the next people she will be helping.   We are thankful that Senior Helpers was there for us as this was our first journey into the world of home companionship.”

Senior Helpers has very compassionate people who work there, who care a lot about people.  My mother suffers from Alzheimer’s and Senior Helpers was able to provide a companion who understood her illness.  We appreciate their hard work and dedication to helping seniors.”

I find Maria to be kind and caring.  She follows direction well.  Mother has stated that 'Maria' is nice to her.  Having been in the Home Health Field myself I know, it can at times be difficult to please the elderly.  I hope to have Maria w/us for the duration.  I'm a good judge of people, so from the first interview with Mr. Turner I knew that I made the right choice.”
