I don’t know about you, but I am definitely a creature of habit. I like to keep my routine, well, a routine! Doing the same thing every day can make tasks seem easier and can keep things flowing. But it can also make your brain hit cruise control and coast through the day.
Changing up your routine can actually help keep your mind and body stay alert and better focused. By changing a few things here and there, you are helping your brain work in new ways and keeping it active.
Don’t know what to change? Don’t worry! Here are a few simple ideas to mix it up:
Change direction – If you drive the same route to work or the store every day, try taking a back road. Driving on new roads helps you focus more which, in turn, will also make you drive safer!
Rearrange your schedule – Say you always clean the house on Fridays, try moving cleaning day to Thursday! If you clean the kitchen first and then your bedroom second, switch it up. You may be surprised at the difference small switches can make.
Add something new – A lot of us tend to fall into bad routines. For example, you may be guilty of plopping down on the couch after dinner. Go for a nice walk instead. Not only will this keep your mind active, but your body will be active too!
Change can be difficult for everyone, but making small changes here and there can really boost your brain activity and help you keep a keen mind!
I think most everyone creates daily habits, especially as they get older. Changing the routine is great advice. I visit my grandma almost every day to help her out, and I think she would benefit from some variety. I will come up with some new activities we can do together!
