Welcome to Senior Helpers of Fairfax. As one of Northern Virginia's premier home care agencies, Senior Helpers will help you find the right care for your loved one.  Senior Helpers of Fairfax, co-owned by Tony Haney and Cheryl Smith, was established to support the growing need for high quality and dependable home care in our local area. Tony is a veteran with 22 years of military service in the Air Force supporting global humanitarian and disaster relief operations.  Cheryl is a former Fairfax County teacher and has many years of experience as an adult educator.  They both wanted to continue providing service in a new way…to our seniors as a tribute for all they have done to serve us.

We specialize in providing Personal and Companion Care to individuals who wish to maintain independence – whether in their home, an in-law apartment, assisted living community, nursing facility or hospital.  We are striving to become the premier senior care network in the area, providing unparalleled service to our clients. Our dedicated team of caring professionals is privileged to care for local families just like yours, and provide peace of mind knowing your loved ones are in good hands, whether for one hour a day or 24/7.

What sets Senior Helpers of Fairfax apart from others?

Never a stranger at your door

  • One of the most difficult aspects of being the client of a home care agency is opening your home to a person you’ve never met, or having a substitute fill in for your familiar caregiver without advance notice.  This will not happen on our watch – we ensure a proper introduction and thorough review of your care plan by one of our office staff.

Nurse support

  • Few things are as traumatic as being rushed to a hospital, but when a caregiver cannot call a nurse for advice on how to deal with a medical situation, the only option may be calling 911.  Barring a life-threatening emergency, this should not be the first phone call a caregiver makes. Private-duty home care companies typically offer little or no nurse support.  We do.
  • Senior Helpers employs a Registered Nurse to oversee all Personal Care clients, conduct assessments, develop written Client Care Plans, perform follow-up visits, and consult with clients and their families.

Our caregivers are supervised employees, not independent contractors

  • We are not a referral service or "nurse registry," where workers are assigned to cases, leaving families to sort through the fine points themselves such as, who will:   pay taxes, unemployment insurance, and workers compensation; perform background and reference checks; and ensure caregivers are bonded and insured.
  • Senior Helpers performs all these essential tasks and also tests caregiving skills, verifies credentials, conducts a full background check, reviews driver license history and speaks with families they have served.

Affordable options

  • Elder care can be costly.  As you explore the full continuum of care options for your loved one, we can assist you in obtaining Veterans Administration benefits, reverse mortgages, and life insurance conversions to pay for In-Home Care. We can also work with your long term care insurance provider to facilitate the submission and claims process for In-Home Care services.

Quality Assurance – Our unwavering commitment to continuous improvement

The Process

Many families have never had to shop for home care services before. We make the process simple and stress-free.  Calling the office is the first step. The sooner we start the conversation, the better you will feel as your questions are answered. A Client Services team member will walk you through a typical day in home care, review your loved one's care needs, summarize the cost of care, and set up a convenient time to meet with your loved one. This free, in-home assessment is designed to introduce your loved one to our services, our mission, and our culture. This first meeting is designed to break the ice and gain the trust and confidence of those private individuals who may be resistant to care. Thereafter, we will develop a care plan that addresses your loved one’s needs and set up a schedule that is affordable and practical. There are no contracts to commit to. Our Service Agreement is highly flexible to meet the changing and individual needs of every client.
