Spring is only a few days away! Have you started preparing? Of course, there’s always some spring cleaning to worry about, but that’s not the only way you and your aging loved one can prepare for warmer weather and more time outdoors! Ask your client what their favorite springtime activities were when they were younger. Recreating these pastimes is a great way to generate positive memories and happy feelings, as well as get your senior outdoors and active!
- Walk down memory lane. Sit down and ask your aging loved ones what they looked forward to the most about springtime. Perhaps your client is a baseball fan? Take them out to a Minnesota Twins game! For weekday games (age 55+) get a $5.00 discount on select seats. Another great option is catching a Saint Paul Saint’s game. They offer senior discounts on many seats and often have post-show fireworks. Did your client go fishing with their parents on the weekend? Take them to one of Minnesota’s many lakes. Minnesota also has many active chapters of Let’s Go Fishing with Seniors. This organization provides a boat, bait, rods, and any other needed equipment. Some local chapters include Eden Prairie, Hastings, Still Water and White Bear Lake. Visit their website here http://lgfws.com/about-us/ to learn more.
- Make it happen. Start planning! Find local places that host senior activities. Try community centers or libraries. Dakota, Scott, Hennepin, Anoka, Ramsey, and Washington counties all have community or senior centers so there is sure to be one nearby! Invite neighbors, friends and family. The more, the merrier, so get others involved.
- Keep it up. Don’t stop at just one baseball game or fishing trip. Make it a weekly tradition for you and your aging loved one. This is a great way to get out of the house and bond with your client.
Our caregivers can take senior’s on outings and help to keep them involved in the community.
If you know of a senior who would benefit from a companion, or needs personal cares please contact our office at 952-892-8403 for more information!
